Abstract Because of its potential benefits, petroleum refineries are increasingly concerned about their planning operations. Although some refinery models for production planning were proposed, they are quite limited in their usefulness. This study describes an integrated approach involving nonlinear optimization and simulation of refinery units in order to obtain a production planning for a given refinery that maximizes profit. The problem is modeled through the LINGO 16.0 software interface and is solved using LINGO’s Global Solver on an Intel i5-2410M processor (8 GB RAM). A case study pertaining to the Refinaria de Paulínia (REPLAN) is proposed, and external loads, product adding, and product pricing is studied, achieving a global optimum solution for the blending in less than a second in every case.The small computational time assures the model usefulness in refinery planning, being important for sensitivity analyses and the determination of break-even points of external loads and of new products. These results indicate that this new approach has a considerable potential for achieving significant gains in terms of planning and profit increase. The model can therefore be used by planners, with significant advantages over other models. The flexibility of the model allied with its quick generation of good solutions is highlighted.

ResumoAlguns estudos afirmam que para obter uma economia geral na construção, os planejadores devem desenvolver uma estratégia de forma a otimizar a utilização dos recursos. Em obras de terraplenagem, uma das formas de fazer isso é minimizar a distância total percorrida pelos veículos na movimentação de terra entre as zonas de corte e aterro. Há muitos estudos que focam na otimização da distribuição de materiais entre zonas de corte e aterro, porém poucos aplicaram em projetos reais, nenhum deles considerou múltiplos equipamentos e nem fizeram uma análise baseada na distância entre estacas. Este trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver um modelo de Programação Matemática que minimize a distância percorrida pelos caminhões basculantes em atividades de distribuição de materiais na terraplenagem. O modelo foi aplicado em um estudo de caso em uma obra rodoviária, no qualse obteve a alocação de corte e aterro ótima, de forma a minimizar a distância percorrida pelos caminhões, e, por conseguinte, a rota ótima para a utilização de caminhões ao longo da obra. Ao comparar o resultado obtido pelo modelo e o resultado fornecido pelo diagrama de massas obtém-se uma economia de 12% na distância percorrida.

AbstractSome studies claim that for an overall savings in the construction, planners should develop a strategy to optimize resource utilization. In Earthworks one way to do this is to minimize the total distance traveled by trucks between the cut and fill areas in earthworks. There are many studies and papers that focus on the optimization of distribution of material between cut and fill areas, but few applied in real projects, none of them considered multiple equipment and neither did an analysis based on the distance between piles. This study aims to develop a mathematical programming model that minimizes the distance traveled by trucks in materials distribution of earthmoving activities. It was applied in case study the road works, which obtained allocating optimal to cut and fill areas in order to minimize the distance traveled by the trucks, and consequently, the optimum route to trucks. Comparing the model's result with the mass diagram it obtained a saving of 12% the distance.

AbstractThe integrated vehicle and crew scheduling problem is a hard Combinatorial Optimization problem widely studied over the years. Taking into consideration the range of variables related to the planning process of vehicles and drivers, there are several practical characteristics of the problem that are not reflected in the solutions generated computationally. Among these characteristics, that were not found in the consulted literature, the most important is the existence of multiple objectives. This paper aims at presenting a multiobjective approach for the integrated vehicle and crew scheduling problem based on Genetic Algorithms. A case study in Portimão (Portugal) is presented and discussed. Were applied: (i) a Pareto Envelope-based Selection Algorithm II (PESA-II), and (ii) a hybridization between PESA-II and Integer Programming, which were summarized in a table. These results indicate that this new approach has a considerable potential for achieving significant gains in terms of operation costs and reduction in planning times.

Abstract O problema de programação de caminhões é um tema de grande relevância na gestão de frota das empresas. Estas enfrentam dificuldades em gerenciar seus veículos devido às diversas variáveis inerentes ao processo, tais como o tamanho ideal da frota, os diversos tipos de caminhões disponíveis, a capacidade de carga do caminhão, as informações técnicas do cliente e o agendamento das viagens. No que se refere ao transporte de derivados de petróleo, existem diversas características operacionais que dificultam a programação de caminhões. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver um modelo de programação inteira para a otimização da programação de veículos de múltiplos tipos para o transporte de derivados de petróleo para obras de construção de rodovias. Foi desenvolvido um modelo que buscasse a minimização da frota de caminhões disponíveis. Como conclusões, pode-se ressaltar que a metodologia empregada serviu para minimizar em 23,3%, em media, a frota necessária no período analisado. O desenvolvimento de indicadores de desempenho permitiu avaliar a qualidade das soluções geradas.

Abstract The truck scheduling problem is an important topic in the companies' fleet management. Many companies face difficulties to manage their vehicles due to several variables inherent to the management process, such as the optimal fleet size, multiple types of trucks available, trucks capacity, the technical information from the client's construction site and trips scheduling. In terms of the transportation of oil products, there are many operational characteristics that make the truck scheduling difficult. The purpose of this research study was to develop an Integer Programming model to optimize the multi-type truck scheduling for the transportation of oil products for road construction sites. A model that aimed to minimize the truck fleet available was developed. The method used has minimized the available fleet in 23,3%, in average, in the period under review. The development of key performance indicators allows to evaluate the quality of the solutions created.

O sistema portuário é elemento-chave para o desenvolvimento macroeconômico da sua área de influência. A avaliação de desempenho do setor portuário torna-se fundamental para o monitoramento e o aprimoramento das atividades deste setor para buscar atingir a eficiência. Para que se possa procurar a eficiência é preciso medi-la e conhecer as ineficiências. Estas medidas podem ser feitas com a Análise Envoltória de Dados (Data Envelopment Analysis - DEA) que é um método baseado em programação matemática, que analisa, com base nos recursos (inputs) e produtos (outputs) utilizados em dado processo, a eficiência de um conjunto de unidades tomadoras de decisão (Decision Making Units - DMU). O presente trabalho teve como objetivo elaborar e analisar modelo para a medição da eficiência dos portos da Região Nordeste do Brasil, no ano de 2006, adotando o método DEA. A seleção de variáveis foi feita com auxílio do método Compensatório de Normalização Única, o qual determina as variáveis a serem utilizadas através do índice S que depende da eficiência média (relação causal) e da quantidade de DMU na fronteira (poder de discriminação). Foram analisadas as instalações e operações de contêineres e granéis sólidos dos principais portos da Região Nordeste. A obtenção da eficiência portuária, efetuada por tipo de carga, auxilia no planejamento de médio e longo prazo, de forma a organizar os portos para aumentar a movimentação horária e a movimentação de cargas, contribuindo, assim, para a eficiência dos terminais.

The port system is a key element for the macroeconomic development of its area of influence. The performance evaluation of the port sector becomes fundamental to the monitoring and improvement of the activities of this sector aiming at accomplishing efficiency. The Data Envelopment Analysis - DEA is a method based on mathematic programming which analyzes, based on the inputs and outputs utilized in a certain process, the efficiency of a set of Decision Making Units - DMU. This paper aims to elaborate and analyze models for the efficiency measuring of the ports in Brazil's northwest in 2006, adopting the DEA method. The variables selection was done with the aid of the Compensatory method of Normalization (Single Parameter), which determines the variables to be utilized through index S that depends on the average efficiency (causal relation) and the quantity of DMU in the frontier (discrimination power). The facilities of containers and solid bulks of the main ports in northwest were analyzed. The obtaining of the port efficiency executed by the type of load helps in the medium and long-term planning, so that it organizes the ports to increase the timetable turnover and the loads turnover, contributing to the efficiency of the terminals.
